Welcome message from the Dean, Faculty of Arts

The University of Cape Coast Faculty of Arts Colloquia have been established as a biennial meeting to provide a platform for researchers in the Arts and Humanities in Ghana and abroad to dispassionately discuss issues that relate to national and international development and are linked to the Research Agenda of the University of Cape Coast. We are holding the series of Colloquia on themes in line with the University’s research focus on “Health” and the Faculty’s Research Agenda on Meeting Health Challenges in the Context of the Humanities. The issue of health has mostly been discussed at forums where the dominant disciplines have been the Sciences. When the individual thinks about health, it is always related to Medicine. In the Faculty of Arts, we believe that health is closely related to the Humanities, because individuals live in cultures and communicate in varied modes and that apart from orthodox medicine and health-related communication and projects, there are also indigenous and religious philosophies that inform non-traditional healthcare.  We therefore need to research into the relationship between cultures of the people and healthcare as our contribution to the health development of our society. We welcome papers related to health in the Humanities, Medical and Allied Sciences and Development Studies.

Thank you for taking part in our events.
